How well do you think the course conveyed those takeaways?

I think the course conveyed the takeaways really well. For most of the takeaways, I had a difficult time understanding them but was able to grasp them pretty well after we had some more lectures and practiced the concepts well. There are times I felt there was a disconnect between what we are learning in lectures and what was happening in our projects but that is just the nature of the class.

Were there any other particular takaways for you?

There are significant takeaways I took from working with my group on the projects. I learned how to communicate better and work on a complex high-level project.

How did you feel about cold calling?

I don’t think the cold calling was bad at all. I was never really intimidated by Prof. Downing as he was always very understanding, and truly just cared about teaching the information.

How did you feel about office hours?

I only went to one office hours conducted by one of the TA’s but my group members attended them and we got a lot of help from them.

How did you feel about lab sessions?

I never attended a lab session so I’m unable to respond about how they were implemented.

What required tool did you not know and now find very useful?

I really liked TypeScript. I didn’t really know about it before but glad I was able to look into and learn about it more. I was able to learn just more about JavaScript in general because of using TypeScript for our group project.

What’s the most useful Web dev tool that your group used that was not required?

We really liked the Material UI package as it made our lives a lot easier when it came to sorting, filtering, and searching on the MUI data tables. I personally really liked working with them. The package is really well made and allowed for a lot of customization options.

How did you feel about your group having to self-teach many, many technologies?

It got challenging at times but it was a really good way to learn things. I learned about many technologies and it was definitely a valuable experience. Furthermore, it was really fun learning about these technologies with other people. We were able to each other with what we didn’t understand and made sure everyone in the group knew what was going on.

Give me your suggestions for improving the course.

I think having a more detailed outline of what we are going to do for the course could be nice. Right now, we can only see what is happening in the week. But it would be nice to have a semester-long calendar where we could see what we are learning about further in the future.
