CS 373 Spring 2021 Week 10: Tanmay Singh

1.) What did you do this past week?

This week we turned in Phase 2 of the project. Since then I haven't really worked on SWE but our group has planned what we are going to do for this phase. Since we were already in a good spot for Phase 2, this week wasn’t really too difficult and I found myself having a lot of free time.

2.) What is in your way?

This week I have an exam for my classes on Friday which I need to start studying for. I haven’t really paid too much attention in that class but I am still confident I will learn the material necessary for the exam. I will also start working on some fixes from the last phase and start working on the new phase soon.

3.) What will you do next week?

Next week, I’ll just work on what I mentioned above. Studying for my test and work on Phase 3.

4.) If you read it, what did you think of the Dependency Inversion Principle?

I think I learned a lot from this paper. I really liked the portion of the paper where it talked about good design vs bad design and went in-depth with common issues such as fragility, rigidity, and immobility. When I’m going to be coding in the future, I’ll make sure to consider these issues to ensure my project has a good design.

5.) What was your experience of +. *, **. and decorators?

I had very little experience with these concepts. The hackerrank was pretty difficult for me and I’m glad we got a second shot at it. I still need to review some of this material as I’m still not as confident as I’d like to be on this material.

6.) What made you happy this week?

This week was pretty easy for me. I was able to hang out with a lot of my friends and roommates. I was able to try a lot of new food around Austin because I had the time to go out. I was able to book my second appointment for the COVID vaccine so I’m happy about that as well.

7.) What is your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My pick of the week is this website which uses AI to create sounds dependent on the location you give it. For example, if you go to New York you hear artificially generated sounds that match the real sounds of that place. It was interesting to go through random locations and see what kinds of sounds this AI produced. I wonder what kind of datasets and information this project looked at to produce these sounds.
